Our Entrepreneur Journey~ Part 2

It’s August of 2009. Chris and I married during a break in my nursing school semesters. I had finished my LPN year, and had my RN left.

I wasn’t working. Nursing school was so hard and time consuming, there really wasn’t really time for me to work. I was also a primary caregiver for my mom, who at the time was battling cancer. It was important to me to be able to help with her care, as well as my young siblings. At the time we married, my youngest sibling was just 5 years old.

Chris assured me he’d make it work for us financially so that I didn’t have to stack a job on top of school and would have time to help with my family.

One may wonder how we managed to rent a home without proof of steady employment. Well, it just so happened that my parents neighbor had been trying to sell their house for a couple of years and were willing to rent it to us since we’d known them for years.

So we literally moved in next door to my parents. I started my RN year of nursing school. Chris spent his days finding broken cell phones on eBay, fixing them and reselling them. The iPhone had come out in 2007 and the market to repair them was pretty hot. He officially quit pursing college and worked strictly on his business.

I look back at this time in our life and just see God written all over the details. My mom was too sick to care for my siblings. My youngest brother went to half day kindergarten. He’d get home from school and walk next door to hang out with Chris while Chris worked from home. The situation could not have been more ideal.

This scenario was our life for the next year and a half. Chris’s work on eBay reselling cell phones was going great. He supported us while I finished that year of school & graduated with my associates RN degree.

Stay tuned for part 3, where Chris’s eBay business takes an unexpected turn.
